Wally Van Sickle is the founder and president of IDEA WILD, a non-profit organization that provides equipment grants to conservationists and educators. She will be attending the Pan African Ornithological Conference (Oct 14 to 21) in Arusha, Tanzania. I would like the opportunity to present to students and faculty on October 12 at any time for 30-60 minutes. IDEA WILD was founded in 1991 to minimize the loss of biodiversity by empowering people on the front lines of conservation efforts in developing countries. IDEA WILD is unique in the conservation arena and donates basic equipment and supplies for biodiversity research and conservation education projects. We receive requests daily for small equipment grants from professors, students, and non-profit staff working to minimize the loss of biodiversity within their countries. In twenty-one years IDEA WILD has donated binoculars, spotting scopes, mist nets, climbing ropes, laptop computers, GPS units, telemetry, LCD projectors, digital cameras, and other equipment to over 10,000 individuals working on biodiversity conservation projects. These small equipment grants help collect much needed data, facilitate training, and minimize the loss of biodiversity. We will show examples of these field projects, review the application process, and answer questions on how to successfully apply for equipment from IDEA WILD.
